Tuesday's Plenary Session on Schedule UTP at the 61st Midyear Conference in Washington, D.C.
April 14, 2011 — Tax Executives Institute concluded a successful 61st Midyear Conference last week featuring sessions on recent developments in state & local, federal, international, and Canadian taxation, as well as the short-term legislative agenda and the long-term prospects for tax reform in the United States.
The event affirmed TEI's role as a trusted source of tax education and advanced the Institute's goals of providing top-tier educational, networking, and advocacy programs to its members. Spring in our nation's capitol provided the ideal setting for a diverse group of corporate professionals at the forefront of national and international tax affairs.
More than 500 people attended the four-day event, which saw keynote addresses from influential figures in the U.S. tax community. Monday's luncheon featured IRS Commissioner Douglas Shulman, who provided an update on the Internal Revenue Service's regulatory actions. On Tuesday morning, two members of the Senate Finance Committee, Senators Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) and Orrin Hatch (R-Utah), provided the legislative perspective from both sides of the aisle. Michael Danilack, Deputy Commissioner of the IRS's Large Business and International Division, rounded out the keynote speakers at Tuesday's lunch with remarks touching on the recent reorganization of the division, transfer pricing initiatives, and other international developments at the IRS.
The Grand Hyatt Washington provided an excellent venue for networking and interaction with our conference sponsors. Platinum sponsors included Bingham McCutchen, Deloitte, DLA Piper, Ernst & Young, Grant Thornton, KPMG, Mayer Brown, PriceWaterhouseCoopers, Sutherland Asbill & Brennan, Thomson Reuters, and Vertex Inc. Tuesday's reception and banquet allowed participants a chance to unwind and enjoy excellent food, while The Capitol Steps provided the evening's entertainment.
A full article on the event will be published in the next issue of The Tax Executive, TEI's bi-monthly magazine. A subscription to the magazine is free with membership. To learn more about the many benefits of membership, visit the Membership area or contact TEI member services.
