Our 2011/2012 program is underway. On September 29, 2011 KPMG hosted a session on Evolving Tax Developments at the Fairmont Pacific Rim. Presentation topics included Partnership Deferrals, Foreign Affiliate Proposals, The Return to GST/PST, US Tax Reform, Transfer Pricing and Business Traveler Risks. The presentations were followed by cocktails and dinner at Oru. |
On October 19 Christina Zurowski of Definitive Consulting Services made a presentation titled "GST/HST update - looking forward to 2013". This was a lunch meeting held at the Terminal City Club.
On November 2 Deloitte hosted an afternoon presentation session at their Learning Centre. Topics included Recent Case Law and Dealings With CRA, new OECD Guidelines and Mergers & Acquisitions. The presentations were followed by cocktails and dinner at Le Crocodile.
On December 6 the Chapter held its annual liaision event with members of the CRA. Afternoon presentations were made by Narrin Gill, Lucie Bergevin and Jeff Sadrian from the CRA, Larry Chapman (Executive Director and CEO, Canadian Tax Foundation)and Ed Kroft (representing TEI). The presentations were followed by dinner at the Terminal City Club.
On January 18 Stikeman Elliott hosted a presentation and lunch at the Terminal City Club. Doug Richardson from Stikeman's Calgary office presented "The Next Generation: Foreign Asset Income Trusts".
On February 23 E&Y hosted an afternoon session at the Four Seasons Hotel which was followed by cocktails. E&Y presenters discussed International Tax Trends, Hot Legal Issues and Tax Controversy Update.
On March 27 Borden Ladner Gervais presented "Why you should (almost) never lend to a foreign subsidiary: a practical illustration of the modern approach to statutory interpretation." This was followed by a case law and administrative update, and was a lunch meeting held at the Terminal City Club.
On April 23 William Holms and Michael Shields discussed current international tax issues including the impact of recent changes announced in the federal budget and topical foreign country issues encountered by Canadian companies when structuring outbound investment. This was a lunch meeting held at the Terminal City Club.
On May 8 Blakes will host an afternoon session at the Hotel Georgia which will cover "Tax Provisions in Share Purchase Agreements" and "Current Issues in Withholding Taxes". This will be followed by dinner at Hawksworth Restaurant.
The TEI Annual National Tax Conference will be held in Gatineau Quebec on May 6th - 9th. The invitation to this conference and the program details are posted in Chapter Documents.
The Vancouver Chapter AGM will be held at Hy's Steakhouse starting at 5:15 on Tuesday, June 19.
